Northampton Nighthawks Baseball

About Us

Northampton Nighthawks Baseball is the official youth baseball program serving families across Northampton Township, PA. Established in 1975, the Nighthawks provide a fun, instructional, and competitive baseball experience for players ages 4–12. We focus on player development, teamwork, sportsmanship, and building a strong community built around the game we love.

Our league offers T-Ball (Quickball), Coach Pitch, Kid Pitch, Minors, and Majors divisions. Players practice and compete at top-quality township fields including the Northampton Township Recreation Center, St. Leonard’s Complex, Big Meadow, and Municipal Park (Blue Playground).

The Nighthawks are powered by a large volunteer base and supported by an active community. Many players continue into Little League All-Stars, Suburban Travel Baseball, and American Legion programs. We also offer year-round clinics, winter workouts, and skill-development opportunities led by dedicated coaches and experienced volunteers.

Whether your child is picking up a bat for the first time or looking to advance to the next level, Northampton Nighthawks Baseball provides a positive, well-organized, and family-friendly environment where every player can learn, grow, and thrive.  We also offer discounts for 3 or more players in the same household.

Detailed Program Breakdown:

DivisionAge GroupDescription
Quickball4-5 All 4- and 5-Year-Old players must play in this league. This league stresses instructional play and teaches basic rules and above all else, fun.
Bambino6 Coach pitch.  A tee is used when a player misses 5 in a row.   No outs are recorded and everyone bats.
Rookie7 Players bat against coach pitching the entire season. A mechanical pitching machine (blue flame) may be used to offer a more consistent pitch. All players bat in a perpetual batting order. Scores are Not kept.  This division focuses on fundamental hitting, fielding, and batting.
Single A8The early 1/3 of the season is coach pitch; the second 2/3 part of the season has the player pitch with a coach on standby if the pitcher walks three batters in an inning.  Scores are not kept during the regular season. No Playoffs at this level and below.
Majors - AAA*9-10 Less competitive than the American League, this league consists of all the 9 year old players and any 10 year old player not selected to the American League. Standings will be kept, and playoffs will follow after the season.
Majors - American League*10-11This league is a little less competitive than the National League. Any 11 or 12 year old player who tried out for the National League and was not selected, will be placed in this league. Once all the 11 and 12 year players have been assigned to the American league, the remaining slots will be filled by 10 year old players.
Majors - National League* 11-12This is our most competitive league. Parents and Players must sign a commitment form in order to play in the National League. Play in this league will be on the expanded field (50’ mound and 70’ base distance). Each player must bat at least once and play the field every other inning. No 9- or 10-year-old players are permitted to play in this League. No Exceptions.

*These are competitive Divisions (standings and play-offs).  Players in these leagues must attend a tryout/evaluation. This is to ensure the teams are balanced.  As with the younger groups, players in these divisions cannot request to be assigned to a team with one of their friends, as managers draft players to each team based on the evaluations.  Players wishing to return to the same team as they were assigned in the previous season, do not need to try out. If they wish to be considered for the next Division, the player must tryout

Age Groups are determined by the age of the player as of August 31st in the current calendar year.
